Baltimore Orioles tied with New York Yankees for first place on AL East standings – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles crushed the New York Yankees 10-6 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, September 6 in the opening game of their four match series.
With their win, the Orioles are once again tied with Yankees for the first place on American League East Division standings table. Yankees should realise that the Orioles are in top form these days and they will not back down in race for AL East title.
Credit should be given to the Orioles for the way they have come out of trouble. Not too long ago, it looked as if their chances of reaching the playoff were over. However, Buck Showalter and company have risen from the ashes to grab the number one spot
on AL East standings table.
“That was an impressive eighth inning,” Alex Rodriguez said. “We had an impressive top half; they trumped us in the bottom half.”
“Our guys have been through this before,” Girardi said. “There’s great leadership in there, so they can look at it as one loss. That’s all it is.”
The loss is not likely to send Yankees in the panic mode. They are pretty much in the driving seat. With only handful of games left this season, Girardi and company will be looking to put things back on track as soon as possible.
Of course, New York has the ability to stay away from the distractions and stay focused. With Orioles also working hard to win the title, it will be a test of the Yankees’ nerves and confidence. Yankees ended first half of the season as the most successful
team in the entire Major League Baseball. However, since then they lost their way, losing more often than not.
“They expect to win,” CC Sabathia said. “That’s translating into a lot of confidence. They’re starting to feed off that.”
“They have very high confidence right now,” Eric Chavez said. “That will override any lack of experience they may have.”
This club that prides itself on remaining collected and calm face a big challenge from the Orioles who have lost just nine out of their last 31 games.
