Baltimore Orioles to maintain ticket prices from 2012 in 2013 season - MLB News
It is great news for the Baltimore Orioles’ enthusiasts as the ball club has decided not to increase the prices for the season ticket holders in 2013. This will be the fifth consecutive years that the Baltimore ball club will be maintaining prices of its
tickets. The prices of individual game tickets are yet to be announced.
Greg Bader, the Orioles’ vice president of communication said that after evaluating the situation, it was felt that it was best to leave the price as they had been in the last five seasons.
“Each year we evaluate a variety of factors when determining ticket prices, and this year we determined that we would leave season ticket prices the same as they have been for the past five seasons,” Greg said.
The Orioles drew in large crowds in 2012 then before due to their excellent performance last season. They made it to the post-season for the first time since 1997 and it was their first winning season in the same period.
Camden Yards saw an audience of 2.1 million, an increase by 346,000 from the previous season. The ball park has a capacity of nearly 49,000 people. It was the most home crowd for the O’s since 2007. With the expectation of sustained success in 2013, more
people are expected to flock into the Orioles Park during the 2013 season.
The prices vary from $9 for the upper reserve to around $48 for club boxes and field boxes. The price for single game tickets in the 2012 season varied between $9 and $60 and went up to $95 for prime games. The prices were a tad bit higher if the tickets
were purchased on the same day of the game.
The ball club expects to raise around $23 million to players under the club’s control. Their payroll in 2012 was about $81 million and it will be rising in the upcoming season. Last season, the Orioles had the 19th highest payroll in Major League
Baseball.
This year there is a significant increase expected to that figure though the ball club is unlikely to break into the top ten spenders. Dan Duquette believes that the players deserve the raise they will be getting in 2013.
"The good news is that those players are going to be on our roster and that they earned the money by having good years," Duquette said. "I think it's important for people to focus on, the team is paying the players ... [who] are producing for the ball club."
The Orioles will have to juggle their budget a little in the coming season. They will need more revenue certainly and with the gate money being one of the sources of that revenue, they will be certainly looking forward to more people walking through the
gates of Camden Yards.
