Baltimore Orioles to reset their season – MLB News
The Baltimore Orioles have been finding it increasingly difficult to grapple with the unexpected challenges that have popped up. From the underperformance of the players – the experienced and inexperienced alike, to the injuries, the Orioles have had a disappointing
season so far.
Starting from the bull-pen that is otherwise expected to wreck havoc on the rival teams, to the supposedly robust offence, the Baltimore Orioles have barely lived up to the expectations of themselves, let alone the fans.
They realise it, as Mark Reynolds, the third baseman of the Orioles, frankly admitted his team has been struggling. His frank admission comes amid the optimistic hopes that things would change sooner than later.
“We are not getting hits with runners in scoring position, we are not getting our timely pitching and it's adding up to a lot of losses right now," Reynolds continued. "So it's very frustrating.”
The Baltimore Orioles had started the season with what could be rightly described as supremely superb. Being 6-1 in the initial seven games, the performance afterwards saw deterioration, instead of improvement. The team surprised everyone as they seemed
to drop quite drastically in performance after getting such a wonderful start to the season.
The team manager, Buck Showalter, knows it and like Reynolds, he does not wish to deck out the fact. While a few players like Brian Matusz faced injury and came back with drawdown in their performance, others are struggling to prove their efficiency. The
Orioles’ players seem to lack consistency and confidence due to their drop in performances.
"You don't throw a blanket over it. Some guys are later, [they] come later," Showalter added. "And some guys have to have a little setback to see if they are going to bite back or if they are just going to pull in the dirt around you.”
To come out of this disappointing phase, radical measures need to be taken. If nothing else, the Orioles ranking emerges as something unsatisfactory. Currently they stand in the 28th spot on the ranking with only 36 wins, having 52 losses.
The pitching line-up now preponderantly depends on how Matusz performs on his return. Jake Arrieta has not practically demonstrated the kind of performance which is expected from him and Zach Britton, the rookie, has a lot more to do to establish his relevance.
With all the problems that have beset the Orioles with the inability of the players to take on the rivals, Showalter still expects something good from the team. From the daunting to the challenging task, he is a fighter.
It is this fighting spirit that is expected to translate into wonderfully good performance from Friday.
