Baltimore Orioles trade Arrieta, Strop for Feldman and Clevenger – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles made some moves to strengthen their rotation as the ballclub traded Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop to Chicago White Sox for Scott Feldman and catcher Chris Clevenger who was optioned to the Norfolk Tides, the Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore
ballclub.
Orioles have had some trouble with their opening rotation and have not been performing as well as they would like to when it comes to the pitching in general. The rotation is likely going to get a boost with Wei-Yin Chen expected to make a comeback. Currently
Wei is pitching for the Double-A Bowie Bay Sox.
Dan Duquette, the executive vice president of the Orioles for the baseball operations is hoping that the starting pitching can get stronger with the arrival of Scott Feldman and the return of one of the more consistent opening pitchers for the birds in shape
of Chen.
“We are going to be able to make another addition to our rotation hopefully in another week when Chen rejoins the club, so I think at this stage, let's see what Feldman and Chen do for us,” Duquette said.
Dan also said that Scott has the experience to stabilise the rotation in the lateral part of the season.
“He's a proven veteran starting pitcher, and he should help stabilize our rotation in the second half of the season,” Duquette said.
The thirty-year-old is in his ninth season in the Major League and has spent all his time with the Texas Rangers apart from the current season. He has had a decent form in 2013 as the pitcher has a 7-6 winning record and has been maintaining a decent 3.46
ERA in 15 games to date, all as a starting pitcher.
It is a tough time for Jake Arrieta, however. He has been a part of the Orioles for his entire career which is into its fourth year now. The pitcher said that he will never forget the love and support he received in Baltimore and the city meant something
special for him. He does realise that it is the nature of the game and such moves are a part and parcel for every player.
“The people and the support that I received, over the course of my career from the Orioles, is something I'll never forget,” Arrieta said. “Baltimore will always be special to me. I loved the city and I enjoyed my time there.”
Baltimore Orioles have not been traditionally known to be big fans of transfers and only make very selected calls. It is perhaps in the best interest of the ballclub as well as the players involved to make a move and bring about a bit of change.
