Baltimore Ravens, QB Joe Flacco cover considerable ground in long-term deal talks – NFL News
A new wave of optimism has emerged about the deal extension of Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback Joe Flacco with some reports gauging the progress made on the matter as far as 75 percent and there is likelihood both parties agree to fresh
terms before opening of training camp later this month.
Both, the player’s agent Joe Linta and Ravens managers, have confirmed they have continued to talk but declined to give a final word if they are able to sign the final draft of the contract well in time for training camp.
Linta has expressed excitement about the continuation of the negotiations, sounding to have the deal in pockets but realistically there is still some ground left to cover.
The agent said:
“We are talking and will continue to talk [Ravens vice president of football administration]Pat Moriarty is a class act and I enjoy dealing with him. We — and the Ravens, I think — have no timetable.”
A report on the NFL.com has claimed the progress has made up to 75 percent but did not indicate how long it is going to take both parties to reach an agreement on the remaining 25 percent.
Some commentators have set hopes about the contract signing in time before training camp but given that both sides have refrained from setting a timetable for it, the possibility of it going beyond the camp phase is there.
The Ravens have recently turned their focus on the compelling deal issue of the quarterback as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. The team has recently signed running back Ray Rice to a long-term contract, which was the most
urgent matter for them given the deadline of July 16 had loomed over their heads.
At the moment, it is difficult to project a number or final figure on the QB’s contract but some commentators believe the offence leader should be able to get the managers agree to healthy terms.
Ravens’ owner Steve Bisciotti had earlier issued a rather encouraging statement that the organisation wants to make a long-term commitment to the quarterback before he nears expiry of the rookie deal. He did not hint at the prospective
value of the deal either.
