Baltimore Ravens Ed Reed backs Joe Flacco to prove his skills in New England Patriots game –NFL News
Baltimore Ravens’ safety, Ed Reed, stated on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, that their quarterback (QB), Joe Flacco, will have to prove himself that he was better than the New England Patriots' attack, to help his team claim a possible win in their championship
game in Foxborough on Sunday, January 22, 2012.
In his comments on the SiriusXM National Football League (NFL) radio show, he echoed his concerns that Flacco’s performance in their playoff’s first game against Houston at the M&T Bank Stadium this past Sunday, January 15, 2012, was not enough and the QB
was kind of rattled, facing the attacks by the Texans' defence.
"I think Joe was kind of rattled a little bit by (Houston's) defence", Reed said. "(The Texans) had a lot of guys in the box on him. And, I mean, they were getting to him. I think a couple times he needed to get rid of the ball. I don't know how much of
the play-calling ... but it just didn't look like he had a hold on the offense. ... It was just kind of like (Baltimore's coaches) was telling him to do, throw the ball or get it here, you know, get it to certain guys. And he can't play like that".
Joe managed to put up 227 yards in total in the game and 109 yards of the total came after half-time. He had to release the ball on a number of occasions, after being suffocated by the Texans’ defensive line-up.
Meanwhile, the Patriots’ attack, which is led by their QB, Tom Brady, outclassed star Tim Tebow, Denver’s QB, in their 45-10 victory over the Broncos, past weekend.
Reed’s concerns coincide with the opinion of some of the commentators around the NFL, that the Ravens' offence will need to give a perfect performance to improve their chances of beating the Patriots and claiming the American Football Conference (AFC) championship.
Even the Ravens' oppositions gave due credit to their strong defensive line-up, adding that they need their offence to click on the day equally well to secure the win and a title for them.
Flacco, who has recently been spoken of being unfortunate to not being given enough credit for the Ravens wins, faces a real test in the Patriots game.
If he manages to impress from his on-field performance this weekend, he will definitely have the chance to gain the due credibility and recognition.
If Ravens manage to pull off a victory against the New England Patriots this Sunday, they will be through to the Super Bowl mega event in Indianapolis. It will be their first berth the league’s superior show off since 2000.
The team's coach and players said they were ready to face off the challenge and that they have the last chance to prove that they are worthy of the championship and Super Bowl berth, as underlined by their safety.
