Baltimore Ravens Ed Reed gets game ball
The Baltimore Ravens’ players awarded Ed Reed with the highest honour after game; the game ball. After winning the game on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, Reed was presented the game ball, before he boarded a private jet to return home to his family.
Reed said that the game ball was one of the many ways that the team supported him since his younger brother went missing in Louisiana over the weekend.
Reed accumulated four tackles in their 30-7 victory over the Chiefs. The Pro Bowl safety said that his teammates and family helped him keep his head in the game even when he was worried about Brian Reed, his 29-year-old brother.
According to reports, Brian was confronted by a deputy sheriff about a stolen car and then jumped into the Mississippi River.
His and Ed’s mother, Karen Reed, said that police had recovered Brian’s jacket and shoes. She also said that the car that Brian ran from belonged to her other son.
The deputy sheriff said that they were not able to identify the man who had jumped into the river, although Karen is sure that the jacket and shoes belong to her son.
Ed says that right now motivation support is more important to the player than playing football. And what could be a better way than handing the player with the game ball.
"It's a child's game we play," Reed said. "It's not tough to focus on this stuff. Being around these guys helped me stay focused and going forward in life knowing God has got everything. I'm not worried about football. That's the least of my worries."
Ravens coach John Harbaugh said that Reed flew home to join his family before coming back in a couple of days to prepare for Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"I think what Ed's going through, what the Reed family is going through, is a big part of this victory," Harbaugh said. "That's what will be remembered by our players. We're a family, and the Reed family is part of the Raven family.
