Baltimore Ravens’ Ed Reed sends search teams to look for body of brother
Ed Reed, safety for Baltimore Ravens, and his family have called in a private search team to look for the body of Brian Reed.
The search was suspended late on Monday but the team will start the search again at first light, “no matter the weather.”
Brian Reed was reported missing after he was pulled over for a traffic violation. When the deputy sheriff ran the license plates in the central computer, it was determined that the vehicle that he was driving was stolen. Brian then jumped into the Mississippi
River after being confronted by police.
Texas EquuSearch had located what they believe to be the body of Brian on Sunday about 20 miles northwest of New Orleans, Louisiana. However, Lieutenant Wayne McInnis of the Kenner Police department said that divers were unable to locate it.
"We had the perfect image," said Tim Miller, director of EquuSearch. "There's no doubt it was him but it was in an area that has so much debris that doing anything there, it's really hard".
Miller also said that the divers may have dislodged the body as they removed the debris in the search.
"And if they did it could have moved five feet or five miles. The current out there is pretty swift", McInnis said.
Miller’s crew had been searching through sonar images that were taken throughout Monday to see if they can narrow down the search to a smaller area. After all, the body could have easily reached the Gulf of Mexico by now.
"We were really optimistic Sunday and this morning. Not so much now. We definitely have a difficult task ahead of us", Miller said.
Miller stopped the search after it started to rain in the New Orleans area.
Ed and Brian’s mother, Karen Reed, said that investigators had recovered Brian’s shoes and jacket in the area that he had jumped in. She also said that the vehicle that he ran from was property of her other son.
They search team will resume its search again on Tuesday morning.
