Baltimore Ravens’ LB Terrell Suggs eyes ambitious late-season return-NFL News
The Baltimore Ravens, who have recently been struggling to strengthen their defence up to the required capacity, are hoping for return of their injured linebacker, Terrell Suggs, into later part of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season.
Although the doctors have not allowed the player for the projected return to the field, the team will have to keep his role limited in passes even if he beats the odds to make his comeback this season.
It is an ambition that Suggs, who is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, which he now says is a partial injury, has recently expressed.
The independent game analysts do not agree to his claim, saying that it is a tendency on part of the players to foresee their comeback even before they are allowed by their doctors. It is a more common phenomenon in case of the injuries like Suggs’, the
analysts believe.
Irrespective of the fact that these injuries carry many risks and setbacks, predicting a firm recovery timeline is always difficult.
Yet Ravens are avoiding speculating anything that discourages the player’s recovery process and his return to the side some time later this season.
Some reports have suggested that the team is foreseeing his rejoining the squad into a limited role, most probably as a pass rusher later in the season.
Even in that case the player’s comeback should come as a bonus for the team, making up to some extent for their lacking strength on the defensive positions.
Ravens is a team well known for the strong defence line. They have relied on their defence to suffocate their oppositions and then score on the turnover opportunities to stage their majority of victories.
The strategy might be affected this season as they have lost a couple of players to injuries and a couple more are out on the holdout in protest pertaining to their deal matters.
One change this year that can compensate for the lack of the defensive strength is their rebuilding of the offensive line, with the hiring of former Indianapolis Colts’ head coach, Jim Caldwell, as their fulltime quarterbacks coach.
With a help on training and grooming of their self-proclaimed leading NFL quarterback, Joe Flacco, Ravens can benefit from the move.
