Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco attends workout but awaits new deal with healthy terms-NFL News
Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback, Joe Flacco, has played down the suggestions that the pending matter of a new deal from the team was an issue for him, which at one point made him to consider skipping the voluntary offseason workout.
Flacco, who surprisingly showed up at the team’s workout session on Monday, April 16, 2012 in spite of an earlier planned boycott, said he had left the issue of a fresh contract to be handled by the management and his agent.
Flacco said:
“I wanted to come, just see the guys and throw the ball around a little bit. The contract is not really an issue. It's going to be taken care of by the guys upstairs and my agent.”
With regard to the prospects of a fresh deal from Ravens, Flacco added:
"I really don't have anything to worry about on that front. Either it's going to get done or it's not. I won't be happy if it doesn't get done, but I'm not going to make a big deal of it."
The quarterback was reported to be a part of the duo, him and running back, Ray Rice, who had planned to skip the team’s workout to lodge their protest in demand of their intended expensive deals from the management.
So far, there is no information if Flacco’s agent and Ravens have started talking on the issue of a new contract and apparently the uncertainty reflective in the player’s statement does not bode well with his hopes of a hefty payout.
Flacco’s appearance for the workout has shown that the player was not in bad terms with the team as much as some of commentators had speculated.
However, this also does not stand a surety for an expensive deal for him, which is seen even more less likely given the fact that none of the managers have hinted at the possible consideration of the players’ ambitious demand.
The player insisted that nothing has changed for him and the workout was just another offseason phase of his career.
According to him:
"It's just any other offseason. I'll be at OTAs and stuff and we'll let those guys take care of it."
Flacco is into last year of his contract and if he is not granted an extension or he does not accept terms of the deal the management offers him, it will be all done for him as far as Ravens are concerned.
The next couple of months are going to be crucial to determining future of his career.
Meanwhile, running back, Ray Rice, has been true to his words of skipping the team’s workout as he did not show up on Monday.
Rice, in one of his recent statements, demanded a considerable pay raise in his new deal from the team.
