Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco deal talks indecisive, stalled for unknown period – NFL News
While Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has made clear progress in his performance, his long-term prospects with the Ravens are still in question because the negotiation process to agree terms of an extension to his contract has
hit the snags, as claimed by some sections of media citing anonymous sources.
Some analysts had speculated in August this year that Joe and Ravens’ manager were giving final touches to the agreement between the two sides but all of sudden the deal talks collapsed to never to start again.
Now some media reports have claimed that the negotiation process has not just been collapsed; as a matter of fact, the process has been shelved altogether.
The QB’s reaction to this development is yet to be known but it certainly should not be an encouraging development given he is into last year of the current contract. The player can be either let go to become a free agent at the end of
this season or the Ravens have an option of locking him in with a $15 million restricted free agent tender.
Further, the team can make the player stay a Raven a year after the next one by assigning him another $18 million restricted tag, with very few options left for him then.
It is pertinent to recall here that Joe had threatened to stage rebellion on refusal or delay by the team in signing new contract with him.
At the end, Flacco returned to the entire offseason programme of the team unconditionally. He was first of the rebellious lot in the league to hit the field irrespective of the fact he was the most vocal of them all.
Thanks to Flacco’s superb performance in the season opener, which helped the Ravens thrash the Cincinnati Bengals to start the season on a winning note, he was backed by coach John Harbaugh for the demanded payout.
Obviously, the coach is not a manager and the managers might not give much weight to his opinion.
