Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco has what it takes to prove him the best – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback, Joe Flacco, rated himself to be the best QB in the National Football League (NFL) a few months ago and everyone shrugged off the remarks as another macho, sorry Flacco-style attention-seeking effort, but since then some commentators
and players have weighed him to be one among the top QBs in the league, if not the best.
Lately, former QB-turned-NFL-analyst on CBS, Phil Simms, has come out open in judging the calibre of Flacco and called him a franchise QB. He said:
"Joe Flacco has had a lot of success, not some. I never look at Joe's completion percentage and say he's inaccurate. I look at him as a guy who makes great throws, not good ones. If someone gets open, he hits them. He moves around well. He's a giant of a
man and can throw the football with basically anybody in the NFL.”
He added:
“If that's not a franchise quarterback, I don't know what one is. All the experts and the networks can continue to debate Joe because he hasn't won the big one and of course that completion percentage."
Flacco may not be a franchise QB at the moment, but this season he has an opportunity to prove he can be the one.
It is rather unfortunate for the player to have been shadowed by the strong defence of the Baltimore Ravens. He has often and duly complained about it.
Ravens' heavy reliance on the defence also means the team has paid less attention to their offence. Apart from Flacco, it is very rare to hear about Ravens’ receivers that the team has relied on their contribution in their victories.
Even if wider and broader aspect of this development is ignored, overall silence and dullness of the offence has affected Flacco’s spirits, energy, passion and thrill.
This aspect is rarely noted by the team and also by the commentators. This however is well reflected in careless and casual attitude of the quarterback that affects his form as well. The inconsistency in his form is one obvious proof of it.
Also, Flacco has not been as lucky as some of his counterparts with other teams like the star QB, Peyton Manning – their teams relied heavily on them, and served to their every need.
The chance for Flacco to prove that he is the best is around the corner as the team has made many improvements in its offence for the 2012 season.
One the most notable is the appointment of fulltime quarterbacks coach, Jim Caldwell. The former Indianapolis Colts' head coach, who trained and groomed Peyton, has spoken of great plans for Flacco and it could prove to be a turning point of his career.
