The issue of a long-term deal that Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback, Joe Flacco, has demanded from the team continues to linger on, and it is expected to do so for sometime in the future as in spite of Ravens’ assurance to the player, the
process of formal negotiations is yet to begin.
In spite of his repeated statements in favour of his demand, the player has resigned to the team’s verbal assurance of landing him a new contract anytime this season.
Earlier, the self-claimed star QB showed some resentment and threatened to stay out of the offseason training activities, but later showed up for all practice sessions.
On the contrary, his colleague, Ray Rice, who is through a similar situation, has opted out of the entire offseason activity. This includes the mandatory minicamp. He skipped the camp even though he had faced threat of a hefty $60,000
fine.
Joe has avoided the risk of fines and quietly turned up at the camp, while the issue of his long-term deal is still pending. There is optimism on end of the player that he might be able to get it done before the full training camp, due
to start next month.
A couple of statements from the management reflecting on their agreement to assign him a new contract is the only positive development in this matter.
Still the main problem of the delay in start of the negotiation process stays as it is, and this apparently is the major source of frustration for the player.
To get the managers to listen to his deal woes, he has come up with different ideas, including the one statement in which he claimed himself to be the best QB in the league. This raised many eyebrows but people who know the player laughed
it off as yet another boast from him.
Flacco is well known in the team for his attention-seeking attitude, which sometimes lead to birth of some controversial situations.
Lately, he has remained relatively calm on the deal matter. He in one of his earlier remarks said he has let things to develop in their own way, because he says he does not have control over them.
