Baltimore Ravens Sergio Kindle likely out for 2010 season
Less than two weeks ago Baltimore Ravens rookie linebacker Sergio Kindle was optimistic about the possibility of playing during the 2010 NFL season. Kindle’s hopes for a 2010 return took
a blow when the team received the results of his medical tests this week.
Kindle fractured his skull in July when he fell down two flights of stairs while visiting a friend’s house in Texas. Kindle explained that the fall took place when he made a wrong turn
while walking in the darkened home. Kindle added, “the whole thing is I should have turned the lights on.”
Kindle recently visited Baltimore and underwent a series of cognitive and neurological tests at Sinai Hospital. Upon receiving the results of the tests Ravens’ coach John Harbaugh said
he “highly doubts” that Kindle will return for any of the 2010 season.
Coach Harbaugh added, “He’s got some serious issues that he’s dealing with. The chances of him playing this year are slim. We’re going to be very, very careful. The doctors are going to
be very careful. Sergio is going to be very careful with this type of an injury.”
Kindle, the Ravens’ top pick in the 2010 NFL entry draft continues to have a positive attitude, saying, “It can only get better from here. My career is going to be fine.”
Kindle stated that he feels fine but, “it’s one of those deals where you feel like you can play, but if the doctors don’t see it, then you don’t play.”
At the time of his injury Kindle was not under contract with the Ravens. The team plans on resuming contract talks with Kindle soon. Harbaugh said they would “try to sign him to some form
of a deal that reflects the situation and give him an opportunity.”
The Ravens have until the 2011 draft to sign Kindle. If he remains unsigned, he is eligible to re-enter the draft.
