Baltimore Ravens Tom Zbikowski knocks out Blake Warner for fourth straight boxing victory
Baltimore Ravens safety Tom Zbikowski is now 4-0 in his professional boxing career with a knock out win over Blake Warner at WinStar Casino on Saturday night.
The safety won against Warner in the first round of the fight and barely broke a sweat as he connected with a vicious right uppercut that sent Warner down, after which referee Vic Drakulich ended the fight, according to a boxing website.
Zbikowski told the website that he wanted “to be a polished performer” and was trying his best to get a knockout against Warner, who is 1-3 in his career.
“I want to be the slick boxer that I am, but a lot of these opponents just come out swinging for the fences,” he said.
Zbikowski also said that staying in Thackerville, Oklahoma, which has a population of only 404 people according to the 2000 United States Census, helped to keep him focused in the days leading up to his fourth bout.
“I'm sleeping as much as I can,” he said before the bout. “There's not much out here. But I like the venue that we're fighting in... I think that there will be a nice crowd there.”
Since Warner is a native of Oklahoma City, which is just a couple of hours drive away from Thackerville, the crowd cheered for him a lot more than they did for Zbikowski. However, they did not get much time to cheer for Warner since the fight lasted just
2 minutes and 20 seconds into the first round.
Zbikowski’s fifth fight is scheduled to be held on May 21, 2011 in Cabazon, California with another one just a few weeks later at Staples Centre in Los Angeles, California on June 4.
Zbikowski is looking at a new line of work just in case he is not with the Ravens next season. Even if the National Football League lockout is lifted, he is still a free agent and may or may not be signed again by the Ravens next season.
Because of the NFL lockout, teams are not allowed to have any contact with their players so there is no opportunity for the franchise to talk to Zbikowski about re-signing him.
