Baltimore Ravens aim to engage QB Joe Flacco, RB Ray Rice in talks for long-term deals-NFL News
The Baltimore Ravens are reported to be initiating negotiations with quarterback, Joe Flacco, for a long-term deal next week.
Flacco and running back, Ray Rice, are the two players the team aims to retain on long-term contracts, after Ravens confirmed a six-year $50 million deal to cornerback, Lardarius Webb, a day earlier.
Rice and Flacco are amongst the number of veterans who have played for the side for more than a decade and want to remain a part of it for an unspecified future.
Both players have recently been vocal about their current deals and are seeking better valued contracts.
Rice has particularly pinpointed his previous deal to have been outplayed by him. He has set hopes for heftier contract from the management.
Similar views have been coming from Flacco, who is well known for his outbursts in the team. He also aims for a better-priced deal.
Amid the intentions that the players have so far sounded, some analysts foresee emergence of certain number of difficulties for both parties to agree to fresh terms of the prospective deals. The financial terms of the deal are going to trigger some controversy
and problems.
It is going to be surely the case if the players come out to be inflexible about their demanded deal figures.
Flacco has already generated a number of controversies through his disputed statements. Recently, he rated himself to be the best quarterback in the league.
This time around, he was unable to attract much attention from the football community. Even his own team refused to buy his claims, and said it was natural for him to come out with such remarks.
Still, the management has a positive point that the player is willing to stay in Baltimore and has remained expressive of the desire lately.
Both, Flacco and Rice, are crucial members of Ravens’ squad and, in case the team fails to agree to their anticipated terms, there will be some complications for them.
Flacco’s presence is particularly more essential given that Ravens have recently switched their focus from defence to develop the offensive line to be equally powerful.
Flacco, who has been assigned a franchise tag by the management, is going to be the most significant member of the team’s attack line.
In spite of the confirmation of talks starting in a week’s time, no timeline has been set by either side by which they are aiming for deals to be done.
