Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans miss on key players in playoff game on past Sunday – NFL News
The Baltimore Ravens had gone without seven of their key players going into their first playoff game against the Houston Texans on Sunday, January 15. 2012.
In its pre-game summary, the Ravens’ management disclosed to have placed as many as seven of its players on the inactive list for the game due to their respective problems, including injuries.
It did not affect Ravens' chances for the win over their visitors and claim a berth into the second round of the postseason, with their next and final game against the New England Patriots scheduled this Sunday, January 22, 2012.
Those left inactive included cornerbacks, Chris Carr and Chykie Brown.
It was the seventh straight miss for Carr, who suffered thigh and back injuries earlier in the season.
He was called for limited action during Ravens’ last three games and apparently did not make any notable play before returning to the sideline with undisclosed problems.
Brown had been put on special teams in Ravens’ last game of the regular season against the Cincinnati Bengals, and has played only seven games during the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season.
His injury problem was not disclosed by his team.
Other players, who the team management termed to have been placed on the inactive list, were linebackers, Josh Bynes and Sergio Kindle, running back, Anthony Allen, wide receiver, Tandon Doss, and offensive lineman, Justin Boren.
Nature of their injuries was also not made public.
Having so many players inactive did not affect the Ravens' prospects for the win over Texans in their first ever playoff game as they toppled their visitors with a score of 20 to 13 points.
The win has put them into the second round of the postseason, with only a game away from a chance at Super Bowl glory
The Houston Texans meanwhile, went into the game with injury problems of their own.
The team also came up with its list of injured players that included their quarterback, Jeff Garcia, tight end, Garrett Graham, safety, Troy Nolan, cornerback, Brandon Harris, wide receiver, Jeff Maehl and offensive linemen, Andrew Gardner and Thomas Austin.
It was only the third game for their quarterback, Jeff Garcia.
He had been signed by the Texans in place of Kellen Clemens who was released by the side, a week after his signing.
The Texans have been quarterback thin during most of the games, in the later part of the 2011 regular season.
It all started with the injury of their regular QBs, Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart.
Both players have been ruled out of the season due to foot and collarbone injuries, respectively.
Since then, the team management has signed three new QBs, promoting their rookie, T.J. Yates to the number one spot, and waiving off another.
With no more games to play this season, Houston Texans are now expected to settle down with their injury problems.
