Baltimore Ravens back middle linebacker Ray Lewis continue playing football in future – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens' middle linebacker, Ray Lewis, said on Friday, January 06, 2012, that he was focused on his team’s postseason games and there was nothing on his mind such as his retirement. Ravens' coach, John Harbaugh has come out backing the player for
a long future in the American professional football league, National Football League (NFL).
The linebacker has spoken of his performance during the NFL year of 2011 and admitted to have fallen below the mark in some of his games he played during the season.
"You are going to always make a bad play; you are always going to make a good play. It's never about that," Lewis said. "It's about the consistency, or how consistent you can approach every week, week-in and week-out."
He is 36 and said he has not considered, so far, seeking an exit from the game, despite that he has played 16 consecutive NFL seasons.
He went on to say that more football was left in him.
"I have a true obligation, first of all, to myself to play the game with nothing else on my mind," he said. "The second thing I have is an obligation to my teammates -- just to give it everything I've got."
Ravens coach John Harbaugh has also backed Lewis for continuing playing professional football for seasons to come, saying his role in the team’s performance and wins has grown in importance.
"Put it this way: I think Ray Lewis has a lot of football left in him," Harbaugh said. "He's going to know when it's time. But it's not time."
His teammate, linebacker, Terrell Suggs, has also supported Ray Lewis playing for the Ravens in the coming seasons. He said that he could not envision Ravens defence without Ray Lewis.
Lewis, amid the spirited statements from his team management and colleagues, said that his side was going into the playoff season with a higher aim of getting it through successfully this year.
The Baltimore Ravens, who have finished the regular NFL’s season of 2011 with the score of 12-4 on the league table, have claimed a bye in the first week of playoff round. They were the American Football Conference (AFC) north champions, having finished
atop the division.
This is the fourth consecutive year that the Ravens have reached in the postseason, playoff. The side has not been able to pull off a win in the second round of the league in all their previous attempts and reach to Super Bowl event.
However, like Ray Lewis other players of the team are hopeful to go beyond the playoff this season. In addition to the latest statement from Lewis, Terrell Suggs had earlier expressed similar optimism about their chances to getting through the playoff round
successfully this time.
