Baltimore Ravens backup QB Tyrod Taylor warily eager to face mentor Michael Vick – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor faces his mentor Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick in this Sunday’s game between the two sides and the upcoming QBs matchup has created a hype in the Ravens to see who comes out as the best.
Taylor himself has played down the talk of heated competition, saying he regards Vick in high esteem given he has played a part in his training and grooming for last couple of years.
He said:
"He's meant a lot to me, done a lot of things as far as helping me progress during my two years here. I'm just looking forward to re-enacting some of the things he does for his offense this week to get our team prepared."
Other members of the Ravens are trying to make most of the forthcoming meeting. Coach John Harbaugh said there was a debate at the team’s QBs meeting this week about who is faster, Vick or Taylor.
Some of the teammates have backed Taylor to be the best out of the lot. Defensive end, Pernell McPhee, for example, said of him:
"I think Tyrod's done a good job of putting himself as Michael Vick throughout the week. If we can contain him it'll be similar to containing Vick. Both of them are scrambling quarterbacks that like to run before they pass."
It is pertinent to recall here Vick’s performance in the season opener against the Cleveland Browns, which had prevented them from a humiliating loss. He threw a successful touchdown pass when only less than two minutes were left in the game and they finished
17-16. A loss was imminent otherwise.
This week they face an even tougher opposition – the Baltimore Ravens – who made a pathetic show of the Cincinnati Bengals in their season opener. The Ravens are clearly favourites to win this weekend’s game, and the Eagles must hope for another performance
from Vick as he had shown in the Browns’ game (but without interceptions) to avoid loss one more time.
Meanwhile, the players like Taylor are going to play an important role in Ravens’ victory, irrespective of the question who they are playing against.
