Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh backs QB Joe Flacco for fresh, hefty deal – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh has backed quarterback Joe Flacco for a fresh deal with the demanded payout and all this is a result of his superb performance in the season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on past Sunday.
Joe threw for 299 yards in the game as the Ravens made most of the struggling Bengals and the coach believes that the QB deserves a new and better contract.
The coach said:
"Pay him whatever he asks for. Pay the man."
He added:
"Scary good. That's probably the word right there. All of our coaches, the organization, we know what we've got in this guy. He has won a lot of football games. Joe Flacco is going to be a great player. Joe Flacco is a great player. Joe Flacco has been a
great player."
It is pertinent to mention here that the quarterback is due to receive a new deal from the team, if they are willing to retain him, as his current rookie contract of $12 million is into last year. The Ravens need to get themselves with the player’s agent
on the negotiations table anytime in the near future to work out fresh terms for him.
Joe just before start of the offseason programme had pinpointed the need for a new contract for himself. As a matter of fact, he had threatened to go on a holdout during the entire offseason training activity if he was denied the possibility, but later returned
to the side to participate in all workouts unconditionally.
The Ravens earlier agreed fresh terms with Ray Rice, while safety Ed Reed has also demanded fresh contract from them, which is expected to come on their agenda of discussions along with Flacco’s deal.
As pointed out by the head coach, Flacco has proven his case for sure that he deserves a new deal. After a successful preseason, he has done wondrously well in the season opener. His performance was even a surprise for the Bengals, who probably did not expect
it coming at all.
It is now down on the Ravens’ managers to weigh their options of new deal for the quarterback at the earliest. They are yet to confirm their version. In view of the latest performance, Flacco has improved his profile considerably well and can be chased by
any side in the league if not retained by the current employers, although it tends to be least likely the case.
