Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh ends Ed Reed mystery to confirm safety for training camp – NFL News
The Baltimore Ravens are closer to solve safety Ed Reed’s mystery once and for all after coach John Harbaugh broke the much-awaited news that the player is set to hit training camp this Wednesday, ending his months of holdout from the team’s offseason programme.
Reed has made headlines every now and then throughout the offseason over contradictory reports emerging around his pro prospects. The most notable was that the player thinks himself closer to retirement days and may not be a part of the Ravens anymore.
Interestingly, the player himself remained silent in the initial phase, leaving the controversy to develop into different directions itself amid all sides presenting thoughts best suiting to their wisdom.
A couple of days ago, the safety himself appeared on the surface clarifying he is not going anywhere away from the National Football League (NFL) and insisted he still has got almost half a decade of football left in him. He further said he was mistaken
for his comments about taking some time out away from the game and linked to retirement.
He confirmed he is returning to full action with the Ravens this season, and the claim is now validated by the head coach’s statement that Reed is joining them this Wednesday.
John confirmed through his tweets that he had a “great talk” with the player this week and he has assured him of his participation in training camp.
The Ravens players have already started reporting to the camp and if the safety shows up as per claim of the coach he should be well in time for the camp, defying all the odds at the end.
Although the coach did not confirm if the player is insisting for a long-term deal from the team, it is reported to be one of the concerns the player has shown while being on the holdout.
Reed is into the last year of his six-year, $40 million contract and with the Ravens not giving any hint about consideration of a new deal for him, it is not clear if the player will last beyond this season.
At the end, retirement might well be the only option for him. He is already 33 and less likely to be committed an expensive and long-term deal by any team in the league.
