Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh questions credibility of league's injury report – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh has questioned credibility of the National Football League (NFL) injury report that warrants all teams to report all injured players even if the injury is not of a serious nature.
John’s outburst has come out after the league office fined the team $20000 for failing to mention safety Ed Reed in the injury report a week earlier.
He said:
"There's no credence on the injury report now. It doesn't mean anything. It has no value. The injury report has no value."
The angry coach has lashed out at the league office asking for an explanation to the fact what is serious and what not and said it was difficult to evaluate what is a serious blow.
He added:
"If that's how they want to word it, I'm not going to go with the league saying that one player is more significant than another player. That's absurd to me. They can get mad at me if they want for saying that, but they need to write that a little more clearly.
We'll just put every guy on there that has a hangnail and go from there."
Although the coach himself has not been fined, his concerns have warranted an explanation from the office, which might lead to an unusual situation but nothing as serious as change in the rules.
The league office has not responded to Harbaugh’s criticism yet and may not be answering it at all given the rules clearly define report of all injured players on the list.
It is one of the rare incidents that the league office has come under fire from a team on the matter of injury report. The office has already made change in the list, and has allowed teams to nominate a replacement for an injured player on their roster until
the injured returns by mid season.
The game punters and legal experts have not thrown light on the matter and some commentators believe it might not be heard louder in the league circles given the voice has not been raised through an official platform.
Interestingly, the fine has changed the attitude on the surface as the Ravens have reported 16 players on the injured list last week and Cleveland Browns did 19. So the fine was worth imposing to change the atmosphere at the teams’ headquarters.
