Baltimore Ravens’ coach John Harbaugh says bounty scandal affected merit of past decisions-NFL News
Baltimore Ravens’ head coach, John Harbaugh, in a surprising take on the bounty scandal that recently exposed a self-introduced scheme of illegal rewards for players and officials, said it has stained credibility of some of the reputable wins in the past,
when the scheme was in full implementation.
In an interview to a radio network, the coach particularly pinpointed win of the three championships by the New England Patriots with head coach, Bill Belichick, and said those victories "got asterisks now" and are stained.
A Spygate scandal had hit Patriots in 2007 and the coach thinks that the victories of those times should be questioned now.
Harbaugh told Baltimore Ravens’ radio ‘98 Rock’:
"In the end, everything is brought before the light of day, when it's all said and done. What happens, even the thing in New England, no matter whether those things had any impact on whether they won their championships or not, they got asterisks now. It's
been stained.”
He added:
"To me, it's never worth it. You have to figure out ways to use the rules to your advantage; you have to figure out ways to make the most of everything. We have new work rules here as far as what we can do and what we can't do with our players, and we're
going to make the most of it.”
It is yet another occasion that bounty scandal has put the credibility of some of decisions of the past into question.
Almost all officials and players have been affected by the scandal to some extent, and even thought the National Football League (NFL) has punished the master planners of the illegal reward scheme, the merit of some decisions is still in doubt.
Harbaugh said there was nothing personal about the mentioned officials and that he had reached out to them all explaining his position.
He added that the issue has affected not one or two officials but somehow has had a major impact on the career of more genuine people.
It is pertinent to mention here that Harbaugh is not alone to have pointed out the negative outfall of the bounty scandal as almost all other coaching and front office officials are critical of it.
