Baltimore Ravens cut cornerback Domonique Foxwort but could re-sign him off free agency-NFL News
Baltimore Ravens have said that the release of cornerback, Domonique Foxwort, does not prevent them from re-signing the player off the free agency.
Domonique was told of the release by the management a couple of days ago, which set the course of unrestricted free agency clear in front of him.
His four-year contract worth $27.2 million with the team was set to expire this season and he was hoping to extend the stay for a few more years. However, now he is gone with a year still left in his deal.
It is for the first time since the 2011-12 National Football League (NFL) regular season ended in January that Ravens have announced a change in their roster. No other player is said to be on the risk of desertion.
There were some hopes earlier that the player might get a contract extension but contrary to them the team has now confirmed his release.
Yet they said that the move will not stop them from re-signing the player off the fee agency if they wanted to have him back anytime in the future provided he does not join any other franchise.
So far, the player has not spoken of the options he might be pursuing after the release, and no other team has been linked to any talk of targeting his signing after the waiver.
None of the parties have thrown light on the factors that led to the departure of the player as such a probability apparently was not part of Raven’s discussion.
Only Ravens’ general manager, Ozzie Newsome, confirmed the release and spoke of the possibility of bringing the player back off the free agency anytime next season.
He said:
This “does not preclude us from bringing back Domonique at a later date."
Unfortunately, the player could only play 18 games for Ravens as his stay with the franchise was marred by injuries. He has been in and out of the team due to injuries over the period of last two years.
He played more games in his first season, but sat out of the entire 2010-11 season due to a knee injury, which required surgery and a lengthy recovery period, forcing him out for more than a year.
The 2011 NFL regular season was equally embarrassing for him as he could manage to play only two games and spent the rest of the season on the sidelines while nursing his injury.
Irrespective of the injury problems, the player was lucky to have remained a part of the team during all four playoff runs since 2008.
Foxworth spent some time with Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons before coming to Ravens in 2008. It is not clear if he has fully recovered from the injury or is still facing some lingering issues.
