Baltimore Ravens decide to give a shot to offence, OC Jim Caldwell’s hiring makes sense-NFL News
Finally, the sense seems to have started prevailing at the Baltimore Ravens as the management decides to give a shot to the offence and not just linger on with too much dependence on the defence alone.
As a first step to break out of the defensive shackles, the management has hired a fulltime offensive coach, a very welcome move for many reasons.
First and the most important of all is that the team now looks serious about building its attack as strong as its defence, for which Ravens are renowned in the football community.
Second, they have finally come to the realisation that their star quarterback, Joe Flacco, who consistently complains of not receiving the due credit for the team’s victories, will have a mentor and trainer.
Flacco has more often proved he is a quarterback of as much talent and potential as any other QB in the league, but has been unlucky not to have a fulltime trainer and guide given that the team has remained focused on defence during all those years.
Last but not the least, Ravens’ new offensive coach is no one other than former Indianapolis Colts’ head coach, Jim Caldwell, whose name is not anonymous in the league given the reason that he has trained and groomed more than one QB of Peyton Manning’s
calibre and stature.
Flacco must be lucky indeed that he will be working under Caldwell, and the official, who is said to be coming out with an approach different to what he had for Peyton Manning, weighs Ravens’ QB as being a high-profile player.
Overall, the coach’s appointment comes as a welcome move by the team, which has too many failures at depth of the NFL season.
No other team has earned the mark of making it to the second round of the league for four consecutive seasons. The feat goes to the Ravens but they have failed themselves on all those occasions.
During all those times, it was the defensive approach of the team that has remained common factor behind their failures.
They have finally realised that suffocating the team’s attack for a while and relying on turnovers for scoring opportunities is not an effective strategy to be followed in all games and especially not in the postseason when the playing environment is more
competitive.
It is exactly what happened with their last appearance in the American Football Conference (AFC) championship game, which they lost.
Joe Flacco has not disappointed the team at the times of need at all, but he will be performing even better after getting trained under a fulltime coach.
