Baltimore Ravens defence gets boost on LB Ray Lewis return by mid Dec – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens’ depleted defensive line is due to get another boost by mid of this month as linebacker Ray Lewis has been linked to a surprise return to action after ahead-than-scheduled recovery from a high sprained ankle.
Lewis was forced on the sideline by the injury after he played initial couple of games in the starting phase of the season, and there was a fear that the season might well be over for him.
A week earlier, however, he surprised everyone by disclosing that he was nearing to hit the field any time earlier in December, which now formally is expected by mid of it.
Since the LB has been placed on the designated to return injured list, he can return to action any time in the season under changed rules of the National Football League (NFL). He was due to participate in practice on Thursday but did not show up. He has
now been speculated to join the squad sometime next week.
Lewis’ return comes in time for the Ravens’ preparation for next round. They are in complete control of AFC North with 9-2 record, well ahead of their competitors, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals, and only a game away from the playoffs.
If they are able to inflict a loss on the Steelers this weekend, a playoff berth will be confirmed for them. Odds are in their favour, and given the number of injuries the opposition is suffering before heading into the game, it appears the Ravens will easily
walk over them.
It is a remarkable performance by the team given their defensive line had completely been depleted in the initial phase of the season. Their two key LBs, Lewis and Terrell Suggs, were out with their respective injury problems.
Suggs was also able to recovery before schedule and is a part of the side since October. Now Lewis’ comeback will add to the defence strength just before the playoffs, which is a very important phase for them.
The Ravens will be playing playoffs for consecutive fifth time, and this year their chances of progressing beyond the first or second round of it are greater than ever before. The players like Lewis stand crucial to their win chances.
