Baltimore Ravens draft pick Sergio Kindle hopeful that he will play this year
Sergio Kindle, the Baltimore Ravens top draft pick in the 2010 NFL entry draft is optimistic that he will play for the team during the 2010 season.
Kindle was selected by Baltimore in the second round of the 2010 draft. While playing his college football for the University of Texas, Kindle was a finalist for both the Butkus Award, given to the top collegiate linebacker, and the Ted Hendricks Award, presented to the top collegiate defensive end.
During the off-season, Kindle fell down two flights of stairs while visiting a home he was unfamiliar with. He stated, "I made a wrong turn, it wasn’t my house. It was my first time being there. The whole thing is I should have turned the lights on.”
The fall left Kindle with a fractured skull. He missed the entire pre-season while he rehabilitated from his injury.
Kindle was back in Baltimore earlier this week to undergo neurological testing at Sinai Hospital. He received more than six hours of testing while at the hospital. He also underwent an MRI before returning to Texas.
After the tests Kindle had this to say: “I thought the tests went well. But I don’t have the final say. When the doctors give the results to the team, that will let me know if I can come back.”
Kindle has hopes of returning as soon as possible: “I’m not a head doctor but I work out and do drills on my own and I feel fine.”
Ravens coach John Harbaugh is taking a cautious approach. “We’ve been told there is a chance (that he could return), but there’s also a chance that this thing could take a long time. So, we just don’t know.”
Kindle remains unsigned by the Ravens, but talks are expected to resume when both sides are sure that Kindle can safely begin his NFL career.
