Baltimore Ravens escape safety Ed Reed injury scare as ankle X-rays results come negative – NFL News
The Baltimore Ravens are lucky to have escaped an injury scare as their safety, Ed Reed came clean in an X-ray of his ankle, with one of their most crucial games against the New England Patriots before them in the next week.
Reed had played a role in Ravens' win over the Houston Texans in their first playoff game at the M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on Sunday, January 15, 2012.
The player in his last play rolled over his ankle and was helped off the field.
He did not return to resume the game, which had almost finished with the Texans losing with 13 to 20 points.
His absence led to a scare in the team management on his prospects for playing their next game against the Patriots in New England on Sunday, January 22, 2012.
The safety told the media that he rolled his left ankle in his last play and was apparently not comfortable in his moves.
It led to the team having an X-ray on his left foot, and was lucky for the player and his team that the results were negative.
"It don't even matter right now", Reed said.
"I just have to heal up as best as I can for next week's game. We'll be ready".
It was reported by the team later that the player will not need an MRI at any stage next week as the X-rays results showed that his injury was not of a serious nature.
Ravens' coach, John Harbaugh, told the media in his post-Texans' game conference that the side had come out of the game without an injury scare to any of its players, except for Reed, who said that he will be fit soon.
"Well have to check on Ed", Harbaugh said. "But, apparently, he seems like he’s in good shape".
It is to be seen if the player appears for the pre-game practice sessions to be held through this week and what his fitness level is.
A game miss, next Sunday, which is described as unlikely at this point of time, will definitely affect the Ravens.
The defence is at the centre of Ravens' game's strategies, and along with the linebacker, Ray Lewis, Reeds matters most to their line-up.
The player had six tackles and one interception in the Houston Texans’ game and along with Lewis, he was the leading contributor in their wins over the visitors.
The coach speaks highly of both players and hopes that both of them will be fit and ready in their game against the Patriots.
The side is only a game away from reaching the Super Bowl, and a win over their hosts this Sunday will put them through to the prestigious event for the first time in their last four consecutive attempts.
This is the reason they are aiming for a fully healthy and fit squad. Their only worry so far is Reed, who is expected to recover well before the weekend.
