Baltimore Ravens experienced defence makes an impression on New England Patriots – NFL News Update
Baltimore Ravens' defence, which had been the main spotlight of their wins in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season and playoff, has left an impression on some of the players from their opposition in the American Football Conference (AFC)
championship, the New England Patriots.
The Ravens are up against the Patriots for the AFC championship game to be played in Foxborough in New England, on Sunday, January 22, 2012.
A majority of the Ravens' wins have come on back of their defence, which ranks as the second best in the league, and the Patriots apparently are wary of their strategy to hold back their offensive line as much as possible.
"There's no one that's going to overlook a team like that. It would be impossible to do", Patriots’ quarterback, Tom Brady, said in an interview.
"They present a ton of challenges in all three phases of the game. You watch them yesterday, they're physical, they're tough, they can cover. They've got some of the best players in the history of the NFL at their position, in (Terrell) Suggs and Ray Lewis
and Ed Reed and Haloti Ngata. You've got phenomenal players there".
Brady is among the brightest offensive line spots and is convinced that the game against the Ravens will not be as easy as their ties against some other teams, calling them "the best team we've faced all year".
The player seems true to his opinion given the fact that the Ravens' defence has almost suffocated the Houston Texans' offensive line, in their first playoff game this past Sunday, which Baltimore won by 23-13.
There was hardly any chance for the Texans’ quarterbacks to break through the lines of their opposition’s offence throughout the game.
All of their defensive stars performed up to potential and the Texans' young side, which had come a long way from the past regular season and wild-card phase, with an impressive performance, did not have an answer to a tightly controlled defensive tactic
of their opponents.
One of the key points of the Ravens' defence is the vast game experience of their defensive players.
From linebacker, Ray Lewis, to safety, Ed. Reed, all of the players are into the later stage of their careers, having played the game for more than a decade.
This gives them an edge over their opposition, which does not have players with as much experience as they do.
The Patriots are at top in the offensive category on the league table, making it interesting to note if the Ravens' defence is able to maintain its ranks and files against the Patriots' aggressive attacks this weekend.
According to Brady’s statement, they are well aware of the Ravens' strengths and will be up and ready to face them.
