Baltimore Ravens furious over not getting review of wide receiver Lee Evans end zone drop – NFL News
Some at Baltimore Ravens feel that their wide receiver, Lee Evans, might have had possession of the ball with both his feet on the ground in the end zone of the New England Patriots, expressing their surprise over the officials’ ignorance about reviewing
it.
With about a couple of minutes to closure of the game, the Ravens wider receiver held the ball in the end zone but was forced by Patriots undrafted rookie, Sterling Moore, to strip it.
It were only 27 seconds left in the game to end and a touchdown could have allowed the Ravens a clear lead of three points, taking their score to 27 points against the Patriots’ 23 points.
Ravens coach, John Harbaugh, feels that the officials should have reviewed the play and lamented to have been unable to get them to do so in spite of his repeated pin pointing of it.
"I tried to get [the officials'] attention and thought it would be looked at," Harbaugh said. "I thought they would have at least looked at it. I was surprised that they didn't look at it. Obviously, in that situation, I thought they would have looked at
it.”
The denial of the review made the Ravens to lose game with a margin of three points as without the possibility of that touchdown they were left to 20 points to 23 points of their opposition.
It was confirmed by the league’s office that the player did not have both feet on the ground when he had the ball in his hands and therefore there was no need for stoppage of the game for the review.
According to the NFL rule, a player should have both feet, or any other part of the body, except for hands, on the ground with the ball in his hands, to get a touchdown on the play or stand an eligibility for review.
This was not the case with Evans’ handling of the ball, the league office said.
"The ruling on the field of an incomplete pass was confirmed by the Instant Replay assistant, correctly, and as a result, there was no need to stop the game," it said.
"The receiver did not get his second foot down in the end zone with possession, and as a result, it was an incomplete pass."
The Ravens lost the American Football Conference (AFC) championship game to the Patriots with the margin of three points and are apparently furious over the lost opportunity of reaching to the mega event of Super Bowl yet again.
It is for the fourth consecutive year that the team has failed themselves in their run to the Super Bowl.
Their performance this year was slightly better than their past attempts. In all their previous efforts for the Super Bowl, they could not get beyond the wild card game round.
