Baltimore Ravens get fourth straight win despite Dallas Cowboys’ late surge – NFL Recap
Baltimore Ravens got their fourth straight and fifth overall victory of the season as they halted Dallas Cowboys’ late surge to win Week 6 game, 31-29, on Sunday, October 14, at M&T Bank Stadium.
Cowboys nearly missed an opportunity to force the game to overtime as they missed a two-point conversion after scoring a touchdown in the final minute.
Quarterback Tony Romo sent a pass to Dez Bryant on the conversion attempt, but the ball was not collected by the receiver. After that, kicker Dan Bailey missed a field goal with less than 10 seconds left on the clock, resulting in Cowboys’ second straight and third overall defeat of the season.
Romo said of the missed field goal attempt:
“It’s about execution in those moments and guys doing what they need to do. Sometimes you do that and you still can’t win. Sometimes it comes down to a kick. If the kick goes in, you did a great job today. If it doesn’t go in, sometimes, it’s ‘we didn’t do enough to win.’”
It was again a tough game for Romo, at least when it started. He has been struggling of late with his accuracy and did not do well early in the game.
However, he started finding his rhythm later and led the team’s late surge, only to fall two points short of Ravens.
Romo completed 25 of 36 passes for 261 yards and scored two touchdowns while throwing one interception.
His Ravens’ counterpart Joe Flacco again had a good game, though he was not as impressive as Romo towards the end of the game.
Flacco completed 17 of his 26 passes for 234 yards and scored a touchdown.
The highlight of the game was a record-tying kickoff return for a touchdown from Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones. He ran across the field for 108 yards to score in the third quarter.
Cowboys gained a total of 481 yards in the game, while Ravens managed 316 yards. It was a competitive game in which the Cowboys almost got victory.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh has appreciated the team for keeping the winning momentum going, but he has also highlighted the need for improvement. He said:
“They threw a lot of haymakers at us, and our guys stepped up at the end and found a way to win.”
The head coach further said:
"Was it perfect? Was it pretty? No. And I'm sure that's all stuff that will get written about, and it's all fine. But a victory is still a victory."
Ravens got the first scoring move of the game when they scored a field goal in the first quarter. Cowboys later scored a touchdown when Felix Jones ran for 22 yards.
Cowboys scored a field goal in the second quarter to gain a seven-point lead. However, Ravens scored two touchdowns in the quarter to shift the advantage in their favour.
Cowboys got a touchdown and a field in the third quarter in which Ravens also got a touchdown.
Trailing by four points, Cowboys scored a field goal in the final quarter to reduce the deficit to just one point.
Ravens again extended their lead by scoring a touchdown, which was followed by a touchdown and a missed two-point conversion attempt from Cowboys.
