Baltimore Ravens go head-to-head against revamped Washington Redskins in Week 14 – NFL Preview
Reviving Washington Redskins will take on their mighty neighbours Baltimore Ravens in Week 14 game on Sunday, December 09, 2012, at FedEx Field, Landover, MD.
Ravens are on course to qualify for the postseason and this game could seal American Football Conference (AFC) North if they manage to stop the Redskins’ upbeat offence.
Redskins are hoping end the five-season run of finishing the season without going into playoffs. The team is on a role after winning their last three games.
Redskins are sitting just outside the six playoff spots in the National Football Conference (NFC) after putting up a 6-6 record. This makes it even more important for them so as to keep the pressure on Seattle Seahawks and others for the wild card berth.
The team will rely on the services of their star rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) who has changed the attitude of the entire team ever since he has stepped his foot in the professional circle.
The confidence level of Redskins is sky high after beating the mammoth New York Giants last week for a thrilling 17-16 victory.
RG3 has already broken the league record for total rushing yards covered by a rookie quarterback with after putting up 714 total yards. Giving his views about RG3, Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall said:
"The kid's special. He's on the verge of being a rock star. We used to travel with Mike Vick when I was in Atlanta, and it was definitely a rock-star-type atmosphere wherever he went. And RG is having that same kind of following."
Griffin, the second overall pick of this year’s draft, has been getting a good support from rookie running back Alfred Morris who has averaged 92.2 rushing yards per game this season.
Ravens (9-3) had a chance to qualify for the playoffs last week, but failed to utilise the opportunity and lost 20-23 against Pittsburgh Steelers.
This game looks to be very important for Ravens playoff qualification as they have a tough road ahead as they face teams like Denver Broncos, New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals in coming weeks.
However, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh insists that the team will clinch the division despite some previous mishaps. He said:
"We still are on course. We have an opportunity to accomplish our first and foremost objective -- I wouldn't say the most important objective, but the first objective on the agenda -- which is to win the division. That's something that we need to do. And
the idea of the high seed in the playoffs is still in front of us, too.”
Ravens will have to face RG3 without their top linebacker Terrell Suggs who is out after getting his biceps injured.
