Baltimore Ravens land fresh deal to Lardarius Webb, hope to lock in Joe Flacco, Ray Rice-NFL News
Baltimore Ravens’ cornerback, Lardarius Webb, is reported to be happy receiving a long-term deal from Ravens' management.
It was a long pending demand of the player to earn a sustainable contract from the team, and now he that hopes it will provide him the peace of mind to focus on the game and not to be worried about his future.
Earlier, Webb was re-signed on a year deal after his previous contract ran out. Although he accepted the year-long contract, he insisted on negotiating a long-term deal.
Ravens had also shown willingness to get engaged in negotiations with the player for a long-term contract and after going through some difficulties, the management finally confirmed to have agreed to his terms.
In spite of the lacklustre progress in the talks, both sides remained optimistic about working out something to be acceptable for them.
The longer tenure of the prospective deal was one of the main points for Webb that he wanted to focus on during the discussions with the management and finally they agreed to it and awarded him a five-year deal.
With the one-year contract, which the player had already signed with the team earlier, his total stay under the new conditions will be for six years, at least.
The value of the deal includes $5 million optional bonus and $10 million signing bonus. None of the stakeholders have thrown a light on rest of the terms and conditions of the contract.
In any case, the player said he was happy over the arrangement, which falls well within his wishes of longer stay at Baltimore. He said:
"It feels amazing. I feel blessed and proud. Now I can relax and play ball and not worry about anything. This settles my mind down."
Almost similar amount of satisfaction has been expressed by Ravens’ managers. General manager, Ozzie Newsome, said:
"Lardarius is an important player for the Ravens and we're very happy he will be with us for a long time. We have a good history of completing second contracts for targeted players we want to keep for the long haul."
Ravens, after having done with the Webb’s deal, are reported to be keen on working something similar for quarterback, Joe Flacco, and running back, Ray Rice.
Both players are among few top veterans with Ravens and are interested to stay with them for a longer period of their careers, respectively.
They have already expressively desired for playing more for the team and hoping to reach fresh deals with the team’s managers.
Meanwhile, a couple of reports have claimed that Ravens are currently negotiating a deal with restricted free agent cornerback, Cary Williams. Both sides are tipped to agree to fresh terms in the near future.
