Baltimore Ravens lose cornerback Lardarius Webb and linebacker Ray Lewis for the season – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens have lost two of their best players for the season as veteran linebacker Ray Lewis and cornerback Lardarius Webb are out with season-ending injuries. Ravens head coach Jim Harbaugh made the announcement on Monday, October 15, 2012.
Lewis had a torn triceps during Week 6 game against Dallas Cowboys. His elbow was hit hard on the ground while he was making a tackle. Although he played in the next two plays, he was unable to carry on further and left the field.
Webb tore his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) during the game and left the field immediately.
Harbaugh said that the entire team was sad about the way this season has ended for the two players. He said:
"I'm disappointed for those guys. It doesn't matter how I or someone else feels about it. It's their thing. These are guys that put so much effort, heart and soul into what they do. Lardarius was distraught. I could see it when I walked onto the field, on
his face."
Lewis, 38, has been one of the greatest Ravens’ players. He has played 17 seasons with the team and has been an integral part of the defence. The veteran is a 13-time Pro Bowler and has a franchise record for most tackles.
There is a great chance that Lewis will not be able to return to the field. When Harbaugh was asked about this issue, he said:
“You know I’m not going to make any comment on that, that’s for Ray to speak on. I admire Ray Lewis. I’ve said that many times. I think everybody in this room does. Everybody that knows him feels that way. I look forward to seeing what he says about that.”
Ravens are now facing a terrible situation in the defensive team. They have already lost linebacker Terrell Suggs.
Ravens (5-1) are currently placed in a good position in the standings, but the major reason behind their success is their defence. They will now have to rely more heavily on their offensive team, which, thankfully, is performing well this season.
