Baltimore Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis refuses to feel his age and call it quits – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens' middle linebacker, Ray Lewis, has played 16 consecutive seasons in the National Football League (NFL) and according to his assurance, a couple of days ago, he will be back for another season as Lewis stated that he was still hungry and
thirsty for playing.
Apparently, there is no confirmation from the Ravens' management regarding his statement of returning to the side this year for the upcoming season to play at the linebacker position.
If Lewis manages a comeback, it will be his 17th year of the game in the long tally of games he has played in the league over time.
Lewis will probably be the only player to have played football as a middle linebacker for so long. He is going to turn 37 when he turns to play this year.
"Is this my last time as a Raven? Absolutely not", Lewis said. "Let me answer that question before somebody asks me. Absolutely not. It's just too much. Life offers too much. Every time you step on this field, it's a true blessing".
Lewis was speaking about the prospects of him announcing his retirement on the side line after the, 20-23, loss of his side to the New England Patriots at the Gillette Stadium, in Foxborough, New England.
The player categorically denied the rumours pointing out at the possibility of his calling it quits and said that he felt there was more football left for him and will join his squad in their training camp, which will begin in April later on this year.
"For us to be here now, I'm hungry again and I'm thirsty again", Lewis said. "Every time you go through something like this, it has to drive you. I truly believe that's the only thing that makes people great. It's not the ones who always winning that people
remember. It's the ones who go through tough times".
Lewis is a leader amongst a top few players who are the backbone to the Ravens defence and played a crucial role in the wins of his team during the 2011 NFL regular season and since.
The role of the players like the linebacker assumes even greater importance given the fact that the Baltimore Ravens focus a defensive strategy in a majority of their games.
A number of players at the Ravens are nearing the end of their career and was seen a possibility that some of them, including linebacker Ray Lewis, announce their retirement soon after the game that they lost to the Patriots.
None of them have spoken of weighing their options since the weekend, except for Lewis. They are expected to come out with their future strategy sooner now given the reason the media will be on the heel of the team management to know about significance of
the veteran presence in the side.
