Baltimore Ravens new OC Jim Caldwell rules out major change in offensive scheme – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens new offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell has ruled out bringing in any major change in the team’s offensive scheme saying he will add a wrinkle here and there.
Caldwell has replaced fired Cam Cameron as an offensive coordinator since this week. He previously was coaching quarterback Joe Flacco and younger crop of QBs as a QBs coach.
After formally accepting the reign of new charge, Caldwell said he is not going to do any major changes to offensive scheme of the team but will add minor changes here and there. The problem is that the Ravens have only three more games to go and the coach
does not have time and room to do anything serious with the offensive line.
The coach said:
"Obviously there's not going to be a system change of any sort. I'll add a few wrinkles here and there. For the most part, I think the guys are comfortable with what we do. I've got to find what best suits our personnel and utilise that. Do the things that
we do best."
The first challenge in front of the new coach is to prepare the team’s offensive line to face the Denver Broncos this Sunday, targeting a must win to help the side through to the playoffs.
He has to prepare Joe Flacco versus QB Peyton Manning whom the coach trained and groomed while being a head coach with the Colts. Caldwell said of facing Manning:
"It may seem like a bit of a novelty, but it isn't. We both have a job to do."
It is pertinent to mention that Peyton Manning is the only player in the league who has claimed to be the Most Valuable Player (MVP) four times, and the credit of his success is always given to Caldwell, who trained him for over a decade.
Now he is focused on the job on hand and that is to train Joe Flacco in shorter and longer run, to start with this week, as the Ravens are just held back on the edge of the playoffs. The most concerning factor is that they have become vulnerable to defeats
and lost two straight games. Caldwell needs to salvage and put them back on winning track.
