Baltimore Ravens offensive coach Jim Caldwell has altogether different plan for Joe Flacco – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coach, Jim Caldwell, has spoken of his plans for their quarterback, Joe Flacco, setting a different bar level for him, and that is to make him perfect at what he does well at the moment.
Caldwell, who has coached Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, for over a decade during his association with the team as a head coach, said that performing consistently well is the key for a QB to play at a high level.
"Every once in a while, you will find a quarterback that will have one outstanding year and that's it. Every once in a while, you'll find one that has two pretty good years. And that's it for their entire career. The individuals that can string them back
to back to back to back and continue, that's what you look for in terms of consistency and performing at a very high level.”
He said that all players have individual strengths and Joe has proved his form and strength while being consistent in taking his team to playoff round of the league for four times in the past four years.
The coach, who has also successfully trained and groomed other star quarterbacks such as Brad Johnson, said that he aims to build on the Joe’s strengths rather than looking to make him next Peyton Manning.
He said:
"I'm not here to try to make him like any other quarterback in this league, like Peyton Manning or Brad Johnson or the other guys I've coached."
Joe has recently disclosed his intentions of continuing playing for Ravens for more seasons to come and a meeting is expected between his agent and the team management next week to negotiate an extension into his deal, which runs out after the 2012 National
Football League (NFL) season.
This comes as a good news for the player and will provide him with an opportunity to train and play under supervision of Jim Caldwell.
The hiring of fulltime offensive co-ordinator has brought Ravens’ focus on their attack line in the limelight. They have traditionally banked on their strong defence line, which is full of the most experienced players in the league.
Since their loss of the American Football Conference (AFC) championship to the New England Patriots and consequent criticism of their traditional strategy, they have decided to build their offence to as effective as their defence.
The team has made it to the second round of the NFL four times in last four years and could not reach the super bowl game even once in all those attempts.
They now hope that Jim Caldwell help them bolster their attack, led by Flacco for a year at and for more seasons if his deal is extend beyond its expiry stipulated to be end of 2012 NFL season.
