Baltimore Ravens reshuffle coaching department, hire new linebackers co-ordinator – NFL News
Following move of their defensive co-ordinator, Chuck Pagano, to the Indianapolis Colts, the Baltimore Ravens have come up with a number of changes in their coaching department to fill in the position of their former coach.
They have reshuffled the position of their linebackers’ coach, Dean Pees, promoting him to take over the place of Pagano as a defensive assistant staff.
To fill the Pees’ vacant slot they are reported to have hired former Denver Broncos’ defensive coach, Don Wink, to their coaching department, who is expected to join the team in the near future, following confirmation of his appointment.
The Baltimore Ravens have one of few best defensive line-ups in the league and they did not want to compromise on their strength while being without a fulltime defensive coach.
Wink’s signing is the second addition to the coaching department of the team after their full-time coach Pagano left them to take over head coaching duties at Colts, who recently sacked their full-time coach, Jim Caldwell.
In the face of their poorest form on the field during the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season, with only two wins and massive 14 losses, Colts owner, Jim Irsay, has fired all his managers and coaching officials.
Ravens have earlier informed of signing Caldwell off Colts waiver to coach their offence line, and the former Colts coach is apparently happy to work with their head coach, John Harbaugh.
The team has traditionally relied on their defence in most of their wins and following a strong criticism of their total defensive approach they have given a second thought to it and decided to groom their offensive attack led by their Quarterback, Joe Flacco.
This did not make the team to compromise on its strength of the second best defence on the league and in view of the departure of Pagano they have promoted their linebacker coach to take over defence coaching duties.
Ray Lewis and Rice are among Ravens veterans who have played the professional league for more than a decade and are bright spots of their defence.
Almost all of them are continuing to play for the team for more seasons to come and apparently were concerned seeing their coach leaving the Baltimore.
With a full-time mentor and coach, they are seeing their need served by the team management and are hopeful of performing equally well in the future.
It is very rare in the league that a team has made it to playoff season for four times in last consecutive and could not move beyond, and this has come as a sheer amount of disappointment for Ravens players.
They felt there this season after beating the Houston Texans in playoff game for the first time in four years. Their hopes of reaching Super Bowls were shattered by their loss of the American Football Conference (AFC) championship to the New England Patriots.
