Baltimore Ravens retain running back Ray Rice for another season under new deal – NFL News
The uncertainty around the future of Baltimore Ravens’ running back, Ray Rice, has been cleared by the assurance of the team management to retain him along with their quarterback, Joe Flacco, for another season.
Rice, with a number of other Ravens’ veterans, was on the possibility of calling it quits from their football career or let go by the team management after having seen their team through to postseason round of the National Football League (NFL) on more than
one occasion.
The player is lucky to have been confirmed by none other than Ravens’ owner, Stephen Bisciotti, that he and Joe Flacco have guaranteed another year stay at the Baltimore, a big boost to their hopes of being a part of the team again to possibly see it through
to Super Bowl.
It is for consecutive four times that the Baltimore Ravens have failed to reach to Super Bowl event, and all the veteran players who had been a part of the team during all those four attempts find it difficult to live with their consistent failure in their
ambitions of playing the supreme event of Super Bowl.
The year 2011 was being considered to be last chance for many of them, who are nearing end of their career and may not be part of the team next season.
They included Ray Rice irrespective to the fact he vowed to continue playing for his side in the future and his hopes of staying at Ravens were backed by the owner’s guarantee of their job for another year.
"Ray and (quarterback) Joe Flacco will be a part of this football team next year, guaranteed," Bisciotti
Almost similar supportive words were spoken by Ravens’ general manager, Ozzie Newsome, who has backed the player and other his colleagues for playing for them in the future.
"We would like to have a deal done with Ray before we have to put the tag on him," Newsome said. "[Signing Rice to a new contract] does give us flexibility to go and do some other things with some other players. The agent knows that, too, so we have to balance
that."
Following the loss of AFC championship, the question of retirement has gained prominence for almost all veterans, which added to their frustration and disappointment of losing their Super Bowl hopes.
The management’s decision of betting on those old horses will surely come as a big relief for them and another boost to their professional career.
Ravens are expected to come up with their decision on their linebacker, Ray Lewis, who despite being into 17th year of his career has expressed optimism of coming back next season to play for his side. It is yet to be seen if he is retrained by
his team.
