Baltimore Ravens safety Bernard Pollard vows to challenge Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens safety Bernard Pollard has sounded a warning to Cincinnati Bengals receiver A.J. Green to be wary of their defence but at the same advised the teammates not to let him excel, fearing that letting Green go undefended can prove fatal to their
victory hopes.
It is one of rare warnings from a Ravens’ player before the season starter between the two teams on this Sunday, which also reflects on the worrisome atmosphere that prevails on the Ravens defensive line about looming threat of Green.
Bernard said:
"When we see receivers come across the middle, if we are in the right defence, we are going to smack you, and we are going to let you know that you came across the middle on the wrong team."
He added:
"Having said that if you miss him he can hit a home run."
The statement can also be at disadvantage of Pollard given Green can be aware of being marked by the Ravens and can devise a plan to counter the threat. At the same time, the pregame talk can have an impact on the concentration of other players from both
sides.
Quarterback Andy Dalton and A.J. Green are the two stars of the Bengals offensive scheme and if they are able to orchestrate a well coordinated display of their forms it can certainly be bad news for the Ravens.
So while marking Green will make a sense for the Ravens, they should be able to defend the entire offence line of the Bengals before they could unleash a chain of attacks on the Ravens defence. The Bengals are particularly capable of coming very strongly
in the second half, especially the last quarter, of a game and can penetrate through any defence in the league.
This is the main reason that Pollard has singled out Green as a threat expected to loom large over their defence through the entire game. He knows the Pro Bowl receiver once cut loose is very difficult to stop.
Although the Ravens have the advantage of the historical wins and the home-field advantage, the statement from Pollard reflects the Bengals' capability of turning around game into their favour anytime.
