Baltimore Ravens’ safety Ed Reed joins training camp to put back pro career on track – NFL News
The Baltimore Ravens have confirmed participation of safety Ed Reed in training camp on Thursday, which clears months of unpredictability and confusion around the player’s pro career prospects.
His coming is well within the prediction of coach John Harbaugh who a couple of days to opening of the camp said that the player had assured him of joining the squad at the camp.
John had said:
"Ed Reed plans on being here. I talked with Ed. I had a great conversation, and I'm looking forward to seeing him."
Surprisingly, the safety’s camp joining is unconditional. Earlier, some reports had claimed that his minicamp miss was in protest of a long-term new deal demand from the team. Now no one from the team’s managers or even Reed’s agent has
confirmed if such a matter is in pending.
Nevertheless, the player’s showing at the camp does not come as a surprise to anyone. Some commentators had guessed it happening, amid all the cautions that the miss of the camp on Reed's part can also be a possibility.
The Ravens’ safety is one of the best players on the defensive position that the National Football League (NFL) ever had since 2002. The last three years, however, have affected his performance badly because of the consecutive injury problems.
The injuries have reduced him to only one season during this period.
He is still in a great shape and healthy, showing determination to remain a part of the team this season at least. Although prolonging his career remains an option in front of him, it will depend down to his health and fitness. He is already
33 and can possibly have a shot at his pro career for another couple of seasons, if not four or five years as he claimed recently.
The Ravens now have back the players such as Ray Rice and Reed in their squad and they are almost done with their deal issues.
Quarterback Joe Flacco’s demand of a long-term hefty contract matter is in pending yet but it is not clear if the team will renegotiate terms with him. The stakeholders have not come into contact with each other regarding the matter lately
and the issue looks to see a long delay, if it is not dropped permanently for this season. Flacco is already at the camp.
