Baltimore Ravens’ safety Ed Reed postpones retirement yet again, will join squad next season – NFL
The Baltimore Ravens have received good news from the front of the safety, Ed Reed, as the player confirmed to have put on hold his retirement plans for another year yet again.
Reed has been pondering upon his retirement from the National Football League (NFL) since 2008 due to a nerve impingement problem.
He has postponed during all those years. There was a higher probably of him calling it quits from the game this year.
The player has remained silent over the issue in the postseason. He did not answer to reporters questions about his future strategy following the loss of American Football Conference (AFC) championship by Ravens.
Ravens have been in a phase of uncertainty about the return of the player during the 2012 NFL season, since they did not hear anything from him.
Now the team has broken the silence and confirmed that Reed will be back to the side for another year and return of the player during the next season confirms the delay in his retirement yet another time.
Baltimore Ravens, general manager, Ozzie Newsome, on Friday, February 24, 2012, that Reed has decided to make himself available during the next season.
Newsome said:
"He told [Ravens coach] John [Harbaugh] that he's going to get himself prepared to come back and play in 2012."
The coach, John Harbaugh added:
"Ed is so far along in his career that you've got to respect what he's done and you leave that in his hands."
Reed is one of Ravens’ veterans who are approaching end of their career. The player is rather unlucky in the sense that he has been confronted with the problem of nerve impingement in his right arm and shoulder.
The injury has hindered his form and progress in the game, and as a result of the disappointment the player is said to have been considering quitting the league since 2008.
Somehow he has managed to play during all those years in spite of the lingering problem. The player did not say this year if he would be making the move this year, and the mum had led to contradictory speculations about his professional football career.
It is possible that the player might be playing on the mind of the management, as his career is full of surprises and shocks.
At occasions, he triggered controversies through his explicit and critical statements about either the players or any member from Ravens management.
For example, in the later period of the past NFL season he lashed out at his teammate, quarterback, Joe Flacco, the situation turned out to be nothing after a week of contradictory statements and speculations.
Ed Reed joined the professional football league in 2002 and has grown in his stature of and skills consistently well since then. He a crucial member of Ravens’ strong defence line.
