Baltimore Ravens’ safety Ed Reed wants to play pro league for another four/five years – NFL news
Baltimore Ravens’ veteran safety Ed Reed has finally broken self-imposed silence with the surprising claim that he wants to play the National Football League (NFL) for another four to five years, clearing much uncertainty surrounding his pro
league career prospects.
Still, the Around the League editor Gregg Rosenthal writes the NFL will not be surprised if Reed holds out of training camp as the player has traditionally been in such situations before and changed his
public tune more often.
Reed earlier shocked everyone with the claim that he is mulling retirement but the safety now said he meant to take time off the football activity during the offseason. In reality, he wants to play this year and then four or five years
more in the future.
The safety said:
"I always planned on playing this year. I never thought about not playing. I want to play four or five years after this.”
He added:
"I was reflecting. I retired this offseason. I honestly got myself away from football. That’s why I didn’t come to minicamp. I was away from football. I was spending time with my family. A player would be wrong not to assess himself, any
player, after a 10-year career. That’s what I was doing.”
In spite of the assurance, some commentators are still sceptical about his participation in training camp or ending the uncertainty around his career prospects in the near future.
Most importantly, while the safety insists he wants to play the professional league for half a decade more he has not committed himself for training camp opening later this month.
He also has not talked about his contract matter in the latest remarks, as a number of earlier reports claimed the deal was one of the issues behind his holdout from the offseason programme.
Also, some commentators doubt his chances of playing for another four years as minimum. They believe if he is considered for re-signing he should not be able to go beyond a couple of years, maximum.
They, however, said to be not surprised over the statement because it is coming from Reed and he is well-known to his inconsistent views.
