Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed will not miss training camp – NFL News
It seems that Ed Reed will be back alongside his fellow teammates in training camp after all as one of his family members while talking to CBS Sports confirmed that the player will not hold out.
The family member said:
"Everyone is talking about a holdout. Ed isn't going to hold out. He told me he isn't going to hold out. He speaks his mind about some things, gets some things off his chest, but he's never said he is going to hold out. He'll show up when he has to be there
and he'll play out his contract."
Reed missed the Ravens mandatory minicamp in June, forcing his stance that he is serious about this deal.
Reed has been playing for Ravens for more than a decade and has become a part and parcel of the team.
His current contract will expire after the 2012 season.
Reed was drafted by Ravens as the 24th overall pick in the 2002 draft. In 2004, he was named the defensive player of the year. He has received eight Pro Bowl selections.
He has been an integral part of the Ravens defence for nearly a decade. There have been no doubts about his love and passion for the game. He said:
"I'm sure the Ravens are confident I'll be there for camp, because they know how much I love the game, too. But I'll say this, they're not going to get me for cheap, not a chance.”
According to various reports, Reed was offered a contract of more than a year just two days before the start of the 2011 season, but that deal offered Reed $8 million per year.
Reed has been pretty vocal throughout the offseason. He has been unresolved about whether to skip the training camp or leave the game altogether.
Ravens are aware that at the age of 33, Reed will not have many years left in him to play professional football.
Reed compiled 52 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble along with three interceptions in the last season. He has never been able to win Super Bowl in his career, something which keeps him going.
