Baltimore Ravens seek to delay deal talks as QB Joe Flacco speaks high of prospects-NFL News
Baltimore Ravens seem to be in no haste to start negotiations with quarterback, Joe Flacco's agent, regarding a new deal for him, presenting a challenge to the temperament of the player who is well known for his loud outbursts.
As of the latest, Ravens have not spoken with Flacco or his agent on the matter, and it might take them longer than they anticipated to engage in talks around the possibility of a deal extension with the management.
In spite of Flacco’s confidence about the chances of winning a new deal from the team, the process of actual negotiations is not foreseen in the near future.
This serves no good to Flacco’s cause of expecting a hefty contract from the team, and his claim of being the best QB in the league, dually endorsed by his agent, might not be enough to convince Ravens to facilitate Flacco to become one of the highest paid
players.
Ravens have already said to be unmoved by Joe’s talk of being the best as they believe that it is natural for the players like him to lay such a claim.
Even his agent has said that Flacco deserves a payout among top five QBs of the league for which he has also backed his statement of being the best.
Irrespective to the payment prospects, some commentators believe that the player first should focus on getting engaged in talks with Ravens on an extension to his deal as quickly as possible.
Unlike Flacco or his agent, they see the player coming out of an unimpressive season. They rightly noted that his percentage per-yard attempt had considerably fallen in 2011.
Only notable performance from him was against the New England Patriots in the playoff game, which Ravens lost at the end. His regular season had many dismal phases and his consistency at one point was noted with concerns by the game analysts.
Yet he kept complaining about the ignorance of his contribution to Ravens’ victories by the management throughout the 2011-12 NFL season.
Ravens did not say much to clarification of the issue then and they now also seem to be least bothered about his talk and self-ratings.
The management has reflected well so far that his deal is not a priority for them.
On the other hand, Ravens have recently landed a hefty contract to cornerback, Lardarius Webb.
Furthermore, they are also reported to have been engaged in negotiations for a new deal to running back, Ray Rice. A breakthrough is expected in the near future as both sides have expressed willingness to be flexible on terms of the prospective deal.
