Baltimore Ravens unsuccessful Super Bowl run overshadows their 2011 NFL season records – NFL News
The loss in the American Football Conference (AFC) championship game against the New England Patriots on Sunday, January 22, 2012, has overshadowed good memories of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season of the majority of the Baltimore Ravens players.
An overall successful campaign in the past regular season by the Ravens did not meet an equally impressive end as their loss vs the Patriots ended their hopes for the Super Bowl event yet again.
It was for fourth consecutive year that the Baltimore Ravens have played the playoff round of the NFL. They could not get past the wild card phase during their past three attempts. It was only this time that they played the AFC championship.
The team finished atop the AFC North, claimed the divisional title, had a bye in the first phase of the Playoff and had a perfect home record.
These were some of the bright highlights of their past season. The bad end of the run has overcome all their success and a majority of their players still can not believe they have lost the opportunity.
"This year especially," defensive tackle, Haloti Ngata, said. "I think we all believed we were going to win and get to the Super Bowl. This one kind of hurt a little bit more than in previous years, but you've just got to get back to work and try to get
there again."
Almost all of the players are still in shock to have lost the game and chance of reaching Super Bowl to the Patriots, which according to some of them within their beatable targets. They believe that their outfit was better than their opposition.
"If you get blown out, you just say you lost," cornerback, Chris Carr, said. "But when you feel like you lost to a team that's inferior to you, you're always going to be second-guessing, wishing you could have done this, looking at this play, looking at
that play. It's extremely unsettling."
The Baltimore Ravens lost the AFC championship tie with 20 to 23 points with the game to Patriots. They in last minute had an opportunity to score a touchdown, which could have helped the lead of three points.
They lost the opportunity as their wide receiver, Lee Evans, could not have possession of the ball while his both feet on the ground.
Some of their players believed he had held the ball with his feet in the end zone. The league office later ruled that the player had tripped the ball out of his hands.
At the end the Ravens were confirmed to have lost the opportunity for a review of the play. They came to know then they lost the game and race to Super Bowl.
