Baltimore Ravens weighing recalling LB Ray Lewis versus New York Giants – NFL News
The Baltimore Ravens have decided to take no chances against the New York Giants as far as their squad strength is concerned, and are seriously considering recalling linebacker Ray Lewis.
Lewis is out on the sideline nursing a triceps injury since Week 7 but he has been raring for return for last couple of weeks, participating in all practice and training sessions.
Now coach John Harbaugh has confirmed that the player is coming along well in the recovery process. Although he did not officially confirm to consider him for this weekend’s game versus the Giants, some sections of media have cited anonymous sources claiming
that the LB is nearing return and the team is seriously weighing his inclusion in the squad.
If happens, it will certainly boost the team’s defensive line. The Ravens are in a must-win situation to win the American Football Conference (AFC) North division title.
The Cincinnati Bengals are right at their back on the points table and if the Ravens fail to pull off a win versus the Giants they will be in serious troubles as far as their title is concerned.
The chances of Lewis’ return are expected to be clearer by Saturday evening and if he is back the team would take him off the injured reserve designated for return list by then.
His longer absence along with other linebacker Terrell Suggs, who has suffered a biceps injury, has certainly taken a toll on the defensive line’s performance. This has also hurt the Ravens’ overall performance.
At one stage, they were with the impressive record of 9-2, needing only a win to confirm a playoff berth. Now because of three successive losses they have slipped down at 9-5, risking both opportunities for them.
The coach has expressed confident for a win versus the Giants to leave both opportunities open for them.
