  1. It's tough stuff.........if you plant it outside be sure you plant it far enough from your house that  the rain water can get to it...........But the most important thing is put it in a container (just sides) not bottom 24''round and 24'' deep......once it gets growing it will travel all over and it will take a tractor to get it out. It's beautiful and makes a lovely setting........but look out I've had it travel 24' in a couple of years....but the soil was soft and rich.......just be aware...........otherwise enjoy it.

  2. Where do you live? IF in Canada or the northern US, forget it. It will freeze in the winter.

Some areas of the UK can grow bamboo. I saw a big batch growing near Stranraer in Scotland in a display garden, so it is possible to grow it in the UK if the weather does not get too fierce.

On the other hand, we kept about 15 stalks growing for about 5 years in a little planting in the house and we got rid of it when we moved so who knows how long it would have lasted.

    Best of luck.

  3. It usually grows in a sandy soil in a tropical environment so if you live in Florida, or Hawaii yes.

  4. I don't know about it growing outside, but my co-worker's mother takes all her bamboo out of the water and plants them like regular plants in soil.  She just keeps hers as indoor plants......From what I hear....they grow much faster in soil then they do in water.

  5. Why would you want to. Be fair warned that bamboo spreads like crazy. If you want it for a privacy screen the only way to contain it is by digging a 3 foot ditch under ground and line it with a barrier also the barrier needs to be 1 foot above ground cause shoots will grow ovewr. i am a yard person and one of my yards have it and it grows everywhere now and it cost him money for me to go in and cut it down then mow the lawn cause his yard began looking like Vietnaum.Round up did not kill it also a product from from I think it was orden did not kill it.He has to pay extra for my yard work cause of the bamboo.I live in Georgia.

  6. If you live in a cold climate, plant it in a large pot so you can set it outside when it is warm and bring it inside when it is cold.
