  1. If you are talking about Lucky Bamboo, it is not bamboo at all. You can keep adding water and change it completely to make sure it stays fresh and not go stagnant or rancid.

Your lucky bamboo is actually a type of Dracaena (agavaceae).

If you ‘google’ – Dracaena sanderiana ‘Lucky Bamboo’ or Dracaena Culture or Dracaena Houseplant Care – you will find out how to take care of it as a proper houseplant.

A search of ‘Dracaena sanderiana Lucky Bamboo’, will give the most specific information for what you have and its needs.

  2. If you are talking about Lucky Bamboo or Curly Bamboo it only needs water.  The jelly is a substance that holds water by absorption.  Change the water every couple of weeks and keep it in a brite spot but no direct sun.
