We started a campaign to ban the plastic bags. On average how many carrier bags do you use each time you go to the supermarket? Do you feel the same way? Tell us now. Thanks in advance. =]

  1. I use about 8-10 canvas bags each time I shop.

If I forget my bags, I've started carrying whatever I bought.

With my old leftover plastic bags, I use a pattern to crochet them into a new large bag. They last forever and work great! (You can also crochet them into rugs, yoga bags, whatever.)

  2. I've been re-using carrier bags for as long as I can remember, at least 20 years. I almost never need a new one from the supermarket - we definitely need to use far less and I agree with charging for them (well they're not really free anyway).

But banning them is wrong until there is a completely waterproof alternative. I've had a couple of things in the past year that came in paper bags, I've put them in my sports bag, sealed it properly but they've still got wet inside (from the rain) and the paper bag breaks down.

Luckily I hadn't bought anything that spoiled but that'd be no good for clothes, books, magazines...etc so there's still a need for plastic bags, just nowhere near as much as people seem to think.

  3. Well good for you!  This is one of the most serious environmental issues out there.  People cannot begin to imagine the problems caused by plastics, especially the bags.  Obviiously we can't do without plastic entirely, but we could certainly eliminate the more gratuitous uses.

  4. BAN the BAGS!

I get disgusted everytime I'm checking out of a supermarket and I see hundreds of plastic bags! I agree...they should be charged!

How do I join the campaign???

I feel like standing outside the market and telling people to use re-usable bags!
